Presidential aspirant of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has expressed the desire to debate President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other presidential aspirants. Sowore said this on Wednesday during an interview, Politics Today. He said presidential aspirants should be bold enough to participate in debates about policies and projects they will execute if they become president.

He added that young and new presidential aspirants should also be given the audience and the opportunity to challenge older aspirants through debate. “If want you to be more serious, you should be bringing these presidential candidates to debate us. Buhari should be brought out. The media should force them out of their hiding. Let them come and debate the future of Nigeria,” he said.

He argued that contrary to claims, young people have come up with alternatives to the current leaders. “These alternatives will kick out the old guards in 2019,” Sowore declared. He stressed that younger presidential aspirants are the viable alternative to President Buhari and are capable of doing much more in directing affairs of the nation if elected.

BREAKING NEWS: FG Reduces Cost Of JAMB, NECO Forms

The federal government has approved a reduction in the cost of forms for final year secondary school and post-secondary school examinations. This reduction, first announced by President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on new media, Bashir Ahmad, was decided at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presided over the meeting in the absence of Mr Buhari who travelled on official assignment to Borno State. The cost of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms was reduced from N5,000 to N3,500 while the cost of National Examination Council (NECO) forms was reduced from N11,350 to N9,850. The cost of Basic Education Certificate, also handled by NECO, was also reduced from N5,500 to N4,000. The reduction takes effect from January 2019. JAMB has been making hundreds of millions of naira profit since its new leadership headed by Ishaq Oloyede assumed office; leading many Nigerians to demand a reduction in the cost of forms.

A Federal lawmaker, Sen. Philip Gyunka, on Wednesday in Lafia, said that any plot to illegally impeach the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, will be strongly resisted. Gyunka, representing Nasarawa North, said this at a rally to mark his official declaration to run for Nasarawa State governorship election. Gyunka, who expressed concern over the role played by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adams Oshiomhole in the matter, said the position of the Constitution on who should be President of the Senate was clear.
