*PDP will win Presidential election next year, boasts Saraki


Senate President Bukola Saraki on Wednesday boasted that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party will win the 2019 presidential elections. Saraki said this in Ilorin at a meeting with PDP members who came from the 16 local government areas of the state. He also expressed his confidence that his new party would emerge victorious in all the local government areas of Kwara State.

Saraki said that the victory of PDP at both federal and state levels would be beneficial to all the members in the state. The Senate President said that the future of PDP was now brighter than it used to be. “If we emerge victorious at the federal level, all of us will be the beneficiaries. In the state, with your support we will win the state for PDP. “All of you here are the key players in Kwara politics. With unity of purpose, no party can contest with you."

He assured PDP members that there would be no anointed candidates in all the elective positions.

BREAKING NEWS: FG Reduces Cost Of JAMB, NECO Forms

The federal government has approved a reduction in the cost of forms for final year secondary school and post-secondary school examinations. This reduction, first announced by President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on new media, Bashir Ahmad, was decided at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presided over the meeting in the absence of Mr Buhari who travelled on official assignment to Borno State. The cost of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms was reduced from N5,000 to N3,500 while the cost of National Examination Council (NECO) forms was reduced from N11,350 to N9,850. The cost of Basic Education Certificate, also handled by NECO, was also reduced from N5,500 to N4,000. The reduction takes effect from January 2019. JAMB has been making hundreds of millions of naira profit since its new leadership headed by Ishaq Oloyede assumed office; leading many Nigerians to demand a reduction in the cost of forms.

A Federal lawmaker, Sen. Philip Gyunka, on Wednesday in Lafia, said that any plot to illegally impeach the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, will be strongly resisted. Gyunka, representing Nasarawa North, said this at a rally to mark his official declaration to run for Nasarawa State governorship election. Gyunka, who expressed concern over the role played by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adams Oshiomhole in the matter, said the position of the Constitution on who should be President of the Senate was clear.
