'There Is No Earthquake In Lagos'-Oshiomhole Speaks On The Fight Between Ambode And Tinubu
Global News NG | Sept. 21, 2018
Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the APC, reacting to claims of disagreement between Ambode and Tinubu, APC leader at a meeting with the party’s governors stated that the embattled Governor of Lagos State, was free to contest for the party’s governorship ticket in the state.
According to Oshiomhole, “Now, the attempt to say an embattled governor…there is no APC governor that is embattled and because we are democratic, the best way to measure democracy is the presence of more than one person showing interest in an office.
“That does not make any other person embattled. But, of course, the media can create this impression that there is an earthquake in Lagos; there is no earthquake.
“At every level, I have seen people claiming that in one or two offices there was no opposition. In every other office, we have more than one candidate expressing interest. Those people who are currently occupying those positions are not by reasons of those new expressions of interests, embattled.
“Three, to say that you have never seen Lagos state governor in our meetings is to the extent that your lens is blurred. My records and minutes of our meetings will show the participation of the Lagos state governor in all the meetings in which he has been invited.
This statement is coming on the heels of varying reports that Tinubu had anointed a governorship aspirant, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as the next governor of the state and had ordered Ambode to hand over to him.
The National Chairman of APC however, dismissed the claims of disagreement between Ambode and APC leader.
According to PoliticsNGR, Ambode’s decision to alter, modify and scrap some state’s policies initiated under the Tinubu administration between 1999 and 2007 caused said rift.
One of the sources mentioned the affected policies to include Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), which the Ambode administration scrapped and modified to serve the residents more effectively.
While KAI was replaced with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), the source said LAWMA gave way for Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI), which he said, designed for effective management of the state’s residential wastes.
Apart from KAI and LAWMA, another source cited the case of Lagos Bus Reform Initiative, which the Ambode administration invested over N30 billion Paris Club refunds the state received from the federal government between 2016 and 2017.
Specifically, the source disclosed that Tinubu’s idea of public transportation “is completely different from the Bus Reform Initiative, which Ambode introduced in 2017. Asiwaju believes public transportation should be driven by the private sector
